  1. AGO - Art Gallery of Ontario Ai Weiwei Eventual Ashes SAY THEIR NAMES, REMEMBER. In 2008, a massive earthquake rocked Sichuan, China, resulting in 90,000 deaths that went unreported until Ai Weiwei and a community movement published the names on the internet. This accelerated Ai Weiwei’s rocky relationship with the Chinese government. In 2010, Ai Weiwei put out a call on the internet urging people to say the names of the earthquake victims, to remember them. This August, Ai Weiwei’s first North American exhibit will arrive at the AGO, Eventual Ashes will be opening the exhibit with a performance piece where we do what Ai Weiwei asked, we gather and say the children’s names, we honour and we remember. We’re looking for at least 500 people who can speak any Chinese dialect to be a part of this event. If that’s you or someone you know, please get in touch, or fill out this form below. August 18 is going to be a powerful day.
